Sunday, July 25, After Worship: Brown-Bag Lunch and Conversation for UBC Women
Bring a brown-bag lunch and share your memorable moments in our church building with the women of UBC. Other items on the agenda are possible new names for the American Baptist Women (Sisters in Service?) and a discussion of upcoming program ideas. Questions? Call CoraLea or Carol Sutton.
Sunday July 25th, 3:00pm at University Christian Church – Ordination to Christian Ministry of Jamie Lynn Haskins. The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the Northwest Region and University Christian Church, Seattle invite your presence and prayers for the Ordination to Christian Ministry of Jamie Lynn Haskins. Clergy are invited to wear robes and red stoles - gather to process at 2:45pm. Reception at the church following service. University Christian is located at 4731 – 15th Ave NE.
Thursday July 29th, 7:00pm – Choir rehearsal in the sanctuary. We will be practicing the anthems for our final Sunday at our current address. We will also rehearse on Sunday morning, Aug. 1, at 9:30 a.m.
Saturday July 31st, 9:00am to 11:00am – UBC Cleaning Party. Please RSVP to Tom Nielsen if you can help!
Sunday August 1st, 10:30am – Worship at UBC: Not a Happy Traveler. Scripture: Ruth 1.19-22. The Rev. Carol Sutton will preach as we continue Our Journey of Hope. (No Communion on this day. We will share Communion on Sunday, August 8th.)
UBC Offices will be moving into our new spaces sometime in August – exact dates to be announced. We will continue to worship here on 12th Ave NE through August 8, 2010.
Thursday August 5th, 7:00pm – Summer Book Group Part Deux. See announcement section for more information or contact Aaron Burkhalter.
Friday August 6th 6:00-9:30pm at Greenlake (NW shore) – From Hiroshima to Hope. This annual event remembers those who perished in the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. This family-oriented program will conclude with the Buddhist Toro Nagashi ceremony, a candle-lit lantern ceremony honoring and remembering the victims of war and violence. This event is organized by a collation of peace, religious, civil liberties and cultural heritage organizations. Free. The program: 6 p.m.: Gathering, Lantern preparation, meditation space, music; 7 p.m.: Family Program, Storytelling, music, speakers; 9 p.m.: Toro Nagashi lantern floating ceremony.
Sunday August 8th, 10:30am – Worship at UBC; Honoring Our Journey. Communion Scripture: Jeremiah 1.4-10. Please join us for what will be the last worship service here in the 12th Ave NE Sanctuary; We will hear many voices, past and present, sharing their experiences as part of the ministry of our faith community.
