- Choosing to Be A Welcoming & Affirming Congregation
UBC is a proud member of the Association of Welcoming and Affirming Baptists (AWAB), a nation-wide community of Baptist congregations that have declared our intention to fully welcome our LGBTQ brothers and sisters into our worship space, our leadership positions, and our community as a whole. We affirm the identity and experiences of all LGBTQ people and work compassionately to end discrimination against the LGBTQ community in all its forms, in keeping with our call to advance the radical welcome and love of God in Jesus Christ. We seek to build up a beloved community where all will be one.
- Dedicated to Gender-Neutral and Gender-Inclusive Language
At UBC we are dedicated to using gender-neutral and gender-inclusive language in our worship services and communications. This means we avoid using language and scriptural translations that refer to God solely as “He” or “Him” in favor of language that is either without gender connotations or uses a variety of gendered pronouns.
- Honoring Our History of LGBTQ & Feminist Leadership
UBC has a strong history of clerical and lay leadership by women, members of the LGBTQ community, and feminists. We believe that God’s prophetic voice can and does speak through anyone and everyone and is not based upon how a person dresses, what pronouns they use, or to whom they are married.
