- BFPNA Member
University Baptist Church has for years been a member of BPFNA – Bautistas por la Paz (formerly Baptist Peace Fellowship North America). BPFNA is a network of churches and other Baptist organizations devoted to waging peace in the world through acts of justice, mercy, and reconciliation. UBC participates in the actions of BPFNA through attendance at Peace Camp, conferences, and other initiatives.
- Washington State Gun Control Resolution
In 2014, University Baptist Church members passed a congregational statement giving direction to align our church community with other groups seeking to reduce gun violence and encouraging us individually to act to reduce gun violence. The congregation also voted to support legislation and social actions that would close existing loopholes in criminal background check requirements for gun sales in Washington state. We held meetings to provide overview and discussion of the ballot initiative related to gun sale responsibility, volunteered on phone banks, distributed campaign signs for congregant’s lawns, and engaged in individual advocacy opportunities as each person felt led. In November 2014, this gun responsibility initiative was successfully voted into law.
- Commitment to Minimizing Waste
UBC is committed to minimizing waste from its regular worship, fellowship, and office activities. This commitment includes using reusable and/or compostable food service dishes and utensils; reusing printed music inserts; recycling and composting the majority of our waste stream; and purchasing materials from companies that share our environmental mission.
