Salt and Light (Apr. 18, 2017)

Greetings Easter People!!

The message of Sunday was the same message given to Mary Magdalene – ‘go and tell!’ I am happy to share another ‘blessing’ from Jan Richardson as a new beginning to this Easter season:

You had not imagined
that something so empty
could fill you

to overflowing,

and now you carry
the knowledge
like an awful treasure
or like a child
that curls itself

within your heart:

how the emptiness
will bear forth
a new world
you cannot fathom
but on whose edge

you stand.

So why do you linger?
You have seen,
and so you are
already blessed.
You have been seen,
and so you are

the blessing.

There is no other word
you need.
There is simply
to go
and tell.
There is simply

to begin.

Our prayer time on Sunday included Dave and Terri S. Dave is feeling a little stronger, but continues to take each day at a time. Terri, Carol, and Merletta will be attending the ABC Women’s Conference this coming weekend; blessings on their travel.

A recent letter received at UBC from Michael Ramos at the Church Council of Greater Seattle includes an invitation to attend a “Sanctuary Movement Launch” event on May 1st at St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral. The letter references Charles Z. Smith and the sanctuary movement of the 1980’s, which is  a most important part of UBC’s past history.

This Sunday, we continue our journey as Easter people. May you have opportunities to be, as Tom N. said, both gift and giver this week.
